Fourteen matched pairs of pyritized fossil clam shells from Surade, Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia — 28 shells in all, priced at $12 per pair. 178 grams total.
Each pair is a single clam, both valves together, opened to show what filled the animal after it was buried. The shell itself is preserved as pale cream to white carbonate with fine radial ribbing and the crenulated interlocking margins still sharp along the rim. Inside, the cavity is lined with granular druzy pyrite — a dense carpet of tiny brassy crystals that catch light across the whole interior surface.
The color inside runs from olive and brass to deep charcoal, and a number of the pairs carry natural iridescence: peacock blues, greens, violets, and coppery pinks playing across the pyrite. This is natural surface oxidation on the pyrite, not a coating or treatment. Several also show patches of white calcite and open pockets where the fill is incomplete.
Pairs range from roughly 0.75 to 1.5 inches.
Handling note worth passing to your customers: pyritized fossils should be kept dry. In persistently humid conditions pyrite can slowly break down over years. A dry shelf or a closed case with a desiccant packet is all it takes.
