Maligano jasper from Maligano, Sulawesi, Indonesia — cut slabs of a brecciated stone, where angular fragments ranging from small chips to blocks about two inches long sit locked together in a translucent, glassy grey-brown cement.
The fragments run ivory, cream, and white through tan and golden ochre, with touches of dusty rose and grey. Many show a fine parallel grain across their faces. The spaces between the larger blocks are packed with smaller chips, so each slab reads as a dense mosaic up close and a bold pattern from across the room. A few small open pockets in the cement catch the light with a fine sparkle. The slabs differ in character: two are lighter and built around large ivory blocks, and the third is busier, with more grey cement and finer fragments.
The slabs measure about 5½ to 6 inches across. The edges are left natural, and one slab keeps a ridged, fibrous rind along one side.
