Green chalcedony with heulandite from Madhya Pradesh, India.
Each piece is a plate of botryoidal chalcedony, mounded and lobed across the surface. The chalcedony itself is a medium emerald green, though the heavy coat of tiny colorless heulandite crystals over it reads as a much paler sage or frosted green in photographs — the deeper color shows through in the recesses and where coverage thins. The crystal coat catches light from every angle, closer to frost than to druzy, with darker basalt showing at the edges. Coverage is generous across all five pieces, and several have deep pockets and channels that add real depth when they catch light.
Pieces range from 3 to 3.5 inches.
Heulandite is soft, roughly 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale, and the crystal coat is fine — handle by the base, keep pieces from rubbing against each other in storage, and clean with compressed air rather than brushes or water. Heulandite can also lose water and dull if stored somewhere hot and dry, so keep it out of direct sun and away from heat sources.
