Green apophyllite with peach stilbite from Maharashtra, India, grown together in cavities in the Deccan basalt.
The apophyllite forms large, blocky crystals that look almost cubic, with a glassy lustre. The color runs from nearly clear through pale mint to a soft yellow-green, often deepest at the center of a crystal. Peach stilbite wraps around and between them in sprays and rounded clusters, and on one piece it opens into a classic sheaf-shaped fan. Parts of the stilbite carry a fine, sparkling drusy coating, and a few pieces show patches of the gray basalt host rock.
Pieces run from 4 1/2 to 6 inches. The lot includes one full cluster that works as a centerpiece, and three pieces built around one or two large apophyllite crystals.
Apophyllite splits easily along its flat cleavage planes, and both minerals are soft. Handle each piece by its base, and keep them out of ultrasonic cleaners.
